Chesterfield County gives Ca$h Awards... say again?

The Taxpayer is certain there is a simple answer for this.

The is one more example of how convoluted the existing budget line items are in the Chesterfield County budget.  It is a prime example of why The Taxpayer needs a budget where each line item is explained in simple terms.  It is an example of why The Taxpayer also needs to see a searchable Chesterfield County checkbook online for both the Administration and the School Board.

Are you ready?

2011 was a banner year for "CA$H Awards" in actual spending as listed in the budget plan.

So $836,000 for the Police Department.  $706,000 for the Fire/EMS Department.  There is an easy explanation; however, it is not readily apparent from reading the budget and yet it should be.  The Taxpayer should not have to call or ask questions.

Here is the first Taxpayer Challenge of 2013.

Contact Allan Carmody at 748-1600 or email him at Carmodya@chesterfield.gov and leave a message for him...

  1. Ask him "Why were so many "Ca$h Awards" were handed out in 2011?"
  2. Then, ask him "Why did I have to waste your time and mine asking a question that should be able to be determined by reading the budget."
  3. Then, ask him "Why can't you provide basic metadata to explain each line item?"
  4. Finally, ask him "Can your staff work with the appropriate departments to post the County Checkbook online daily in a modern searchable manner?"
  5. Report your responses below.

Here is some important information for The Taxpayer to balance thpse wanting to grow government and rob liberty:

Taxpayers are frank; but, always polite. Use commonsense and write like you would to your mother...
